Himalayan Pink Granite – The Color of Rock
Himalayan Pink, a wonderful variety of Himalayan pink granite, is the result of a volcanic eruption in Indias Western Ghats region. The color of this stone was never completely understood and has been found on many places, including Alaska and Iceland.
When an eruption happened at the spot, the crystals formed into a gigantic dome. The eruption became so powerful that stones were carried by glaciers and fell into deep valleys, creating a thick layer of ash that was buried beneath the surface and solidified as the ash became compacted.
Himalayan pink granite is typically produced by hydrothermal reactions in the sediments at the bottom of a hydrothermal system. When the gases and water mix, the bubbling action causes fresh minerals to rise and crystallize. As these crystals form, a layer of glass forms over them and then hardens into the pinkish hue of Himalayanpink.
When the crystals in this volcanic glass are exposed to air, they re-crystallize into a different type of mineral, called salted slate. And the process continues until the volume of salt, impurities and other impurities in the surrounding rock become too much for the crystals to hold and they shatter into tiny pieces. These small pieces fall down to the depth below, forming layers of water that are later transported down through the earth and into streams and rivers.
According to many geologists, the layers of sediments deposited in the recent volcanic eruptions are trapped in the bedding layers of the earth, below the ground surface, and gradually fade out over time, disappearing from the surface when water and air cover them. This process eventually led to the formation of many types of rocks, including mountains, hills, forests, deserts and man-made surfaces. In this way, the geological history of the planet has been recorded over long periods of time.
